The Situation: A Long-Time Family Home and a New Chapter
Nancy reached out to DCI Properties while exploring options for selling the home she and her husband Jack had lived in for decades.
The couple had moved into the property in August of 1985, meaning it had been their home for nearly 40 years. Over that time the house naturally accumulated memories, belongings, and the wear that comes with a home that’s been lived in for many years.
Around this time, Jack had begun experiencing some health challenges. Nancy was focused on helping him recover, and the idea of preparing the home for a traditional listing – decluttering, making repairs, and having strangers walking through the house during showings – felt overwhelming.
At the same time, they had begun thinking about their next chapter. Their daughter lived in Kingston, and they hoped to eventually move closer to her and their grandchildren.
Selling the home would help make that transition possible.
Learning About DCI Properties
Nancy first came across DCI through a Facebook ad, and not long after that she also received one of our flyers in the mail.
Before reaching out, she did what many homeowners do — she took time to research the company. She read through online reviews, checked our ratings with the Better Business Bureau, and made sure she understood how the private sale process worked.
Interestingly, we had actually visited the property about six months earlier, when Nancy and Jack were first exploring their options. At the time, the timing simply wasn’t right for them to move forward.
But they kept our contact information, and when they were ready to revisit the idea of selling, they reached out again.
Finding a Simpler Path Forward
When we returned to the home, we met with Nancy and her son to walk through the property and talk about what they hoped to accomplish.
The house itself was a solid brick two-storey home in East London, but it needed quite a bit of updating. Some renovation work had been started in the basement but hadn’t been completed, and other areas of the home needed repairs and general updates.
For Nancy and Jack, taking on those renovations – or preparing the home for listing – simply wasn’t realistic, especially while Jack was focusing on his health.
After reviewing the property and discussing their goals, we were able to present an offer that worked for them. Nancy accepted, and we moved forward with the sale.
Making the Transition Easier
One of Nancy’s biggest concerns was making sure Jack had enough time and space to recover without feeling rushed through the moving process.
To help with that, we were able to extend the closing timeline, allowing them additional time in the home while they prepared for their next step.
We also helped connect the family with a property management company that assisted them in finding a temporary rental in London. This provided a comfortable place to transition while they prepared for their eventual move to Kingston.
They ultimately secured a rental on Oxford Street, which helped make the transition smoother for everyone involved.
💬 Nancy’s Experience
Nancy later left a five-star review, simply saying:
“All went well.”
Sometimes the simplest feedback says the most.
Why This Matters
For homeowners who have lived in a property for many years, selling can feel like a major undertaking — especially when health challenges or life transitions are involved.
Nancy and Jack’s story shows how selling privately can provide a simpler path forward when preparing a home for listing feels overwhelming.
By removing the pressure of repairs, showings, and strict timelines, they were able to focus on what mattered most: Jack’s recovery and planning their next chapter closer to family.
If you’re considering selling your home and want to explore your options, we’re always happy to have a conversation.
